560SEL Radiator Leak
I was checking the tranny fluid level last night and saw this just by chance. No over heating, no loss of coolant, runs cool and the radiator looks pretty new to me. My summer vacation fund just keeps getting smaller and smaller :-/

Agree the rad looks new. If you aren't noticing coolant loss, I would rinse it off and see how quickly it returns. It's a strange color for coolant residue.

Coolant
It’s that blue coolant that MB uses, that’s why it looks like that. My mechanic just got back to me and says it needs to be replaced to the tune of about $1,200.

A new Behr radiator from this site is $515. So he's charging you another $700 in labor and some materials?

My MB coolant has been yellowish ("straw" colored) but it has been awhile. I agree the cost sounds exorbitant, esp. given that this is not a complicated DIY. I would consider going with a non-Behr unit to save a few hundred also, unless you are going to run this as an original classic show car. It is unusual to get a leak there - usu. on the side tanks or in the front.

I heard recently from a buddy who said his BMW mechanic told him that Behr quality has deteriorated and Nissens is a better choice. Anyone else heard any such scuttlebutt!
To the OP - wash off the stain, throw a couple of Bar's Leaks tablets into the cooling system and keep an eye on it. Duke |

It can be a little messy but a radiator is easy to replace. I ruined my 300CD with a small leak in the radiator that I ignored to address.

Fixed
Well, it wasn’t $1,200. Ended up being $900 and they put a Niessen in this time. I have read that Niessen used a reinforced collar on the upper hose connect before Behr and uses better plastic as well. So, we’ll see what happens this Phoenix summer, plus a drive to Buffalo and back. - Mike
