Air Shock
i have a '94 S500. I have H&R springs and 20in wheels. I was wondering if there is any kind of "air shocks" that i could use for this kind of car so that i could raise it when needed or lower it.

On Mercedes suspensions, it's actually the springs that determine ride height. A few Mercedes had hydropneumatic suspensions, like the Evo and Evo II, that raised the car for city potholes and curbs, then lowered it for the 'bahn, with a flick of a dashboard switch. For other models, it'll be a custom job for a 'bagged" or air suspension.

air shocks for Mercedes
Most of the cars the low riders put air shocks on have a similar suspension to a Mercedes: coild on all four corners with hydraulic shocks or struts.
I don't think I'd want to make my MR a low rider, but can someone explain whi it is possible on a Chevy Belair or Malibu and not on a Mercedes?

A US spec S500 has leveling suspension effected by the struts. Softening the springs such as with air bags will make the hydraulic system work harder to maintain the preset level. I don't know if the struts can hold the body up without springs. If they can, then the car won't ride lower.
Seems to me that the alternatives are to adjust the leveling valve for a lower rear ride and lower the front springs mechanically, or get the more conventional rear suspension of an S420 under the S500 and go with airbags. Under what conditions do you 'need' to raise or lower it? Sixto 95 S420 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

my car isnt really that low. however, i would prefer it to be at least a little bit higher. right now, there is no gap between the top of the wheelwell to the tire. there is a little gap, maybe one finger from the sides. i need to post some pics in order to show exactly what i mean. but maybe if i just increase the spring pads on the front, then it would also raise the back since it has self leveling, then maybe the car would be higer, even for just a little bit. im bringing the car to bergwerks tomorrow to have them check the pads.

The car levels to a set distance between the rear axle and body. It doesn't level front to rear.
