Hi all:

anyone can tell me what is the air filter size for my 00' CLK 430? I am thinking to replace them w/ K&N filter, any good?

Check out JC Whitney.com. You can put in your car make and model and it will tell you which one fits.

I wouldn't recommend a K&N. The power improvement is way overhyped and some cellulose filters out flow them size for size.

Their ability to trap particles is highly dependent on oil content, and as the oil content slowly degrades their filtering efficicency goes to hell. Also, excess oil can cause problems with MAF sensors.

For the cost of a K&N you can buy two OEM Bosch filters or other quality name brand cellulose replacements.

Finally, their "washability" is not much benefit. In addition to the time and hassle there is no way you can wash away all the tiny particles that a good filter will trap. That's why modern filters are designed to be thrown away.

Look at it this way. Would you wash out your oil filter in solvent and reinstall it?

There is some thinking that non-OEM filters contribute to the demise of your Air Mass Meter, and if your car is under warranty, you may have difficulty having the part replaced as you added a non-OEM part. The AMM for the car is >$500.

The K&N will not provide any performance improvement over the OE filter. Also, the OE filter is quite inexpensive, so the long term costs of replacing vs. cleaning are not as far apart as they used to be.

For 99% of new cars, they make little sense. However, if you do some exhaust and head flow improvement work, then you might need some additional flow. But, I have read about supercharged CLK430's making 500hp and using the stock intake ducting.

Several Mass Air flow sensor problems have been reported by K&N users. If you are looking for increased HP, I can send you a copy of a two dynamometer results acheived with my Vette with original filter and a K&N. Increased HP with the K&N: NEGATIVE 7HP at 5,700RPM and up. Bottom line: Waste of money and probably cause of problems. But itS, your car.
