removal of instrument cluster cover on dash

I was told that there is a special tool required to remove the
instrument cluster cover, if one wants to replace the gages.
Please advise.

For most models the special tool is a pair of hooks. Get a hanger that your dry cleaning comes back with. Fashion a couple of straight foot long sections, bend one end into something of a sharp J (a 5-10mm barb should do it), curl the other end into something you can grip (clock the grip 90-degrees from the barb). Send the hooks in beside the gauge cluster and dash shell about half way up/down on both sides. Go in about 5" and turn the hooks inward. Pull the gauge cluster out. Easier to do than to describe.

It would be nice to know what kind of car you have. Maybe this trick doesn't work on your car.

Paul,

If you used the search feature you would have seen how someone over the weekend spent a lot of time and effort to answer this question.

Go here: Pull Instrument Cluster

Yea,

It would also be great if we could get the moderator to put a sticky up telling everyone to put their vehicle's year(s) and models(s) in their sig.
