Question diesel run on, and on, and on.

I recently inherited a 93 300D 2.5 turbo from my grandfather. I am interested in anyones help in diagnosing this problem: The car does not stop running once the ignition is turned off. Also, the stop lever on the injection pump looks out of position (points up more than before) I think it might have something to do with the engine shutoff vaccuum motor.(?) Once the key is turned off the engine idle decreases slightly. I have been looking for publications on repair manuals and have found none. I would also like to reap the bennefits of maintaining this vehicle on my own, if it permits. Help?

welcome aboard

Get yourself a "Mighty Vac" and start learning all you can about your car and vacuum leaks. That is probably your problem.

Probably the vac servo on the IP -- exactly the same behavior my 300D exhibited. The diaphram has a small leak.

Do a search on vac shut off or vac cuttoff replacement, details are all there. Easy job, just make SURE it works before you start the engine!
