How do you re-attach the wood strips

I have an 85 300D and the adhesive holding the wood to the metal backing plate has failed so that the wood is no longer adhered.
1. What is the best thing to use to clean off the old adhesive.
2. What is best for re-attaching the wood to backing plate.
