Pending Starter Failure??? W126
Over the last couple of months, I've noticed that once in a while, particularly on a cold start, the starter seems to remain engaged for a couple of seconds after the engine kicks over. It also seems to take an extra second or two for it to start.
Finally this morning, I got nothing on my first two attempts to start the car. After shifting into R and letting it roll a couple of feet, it started fine. I'm thinking that the problem is probably in the starter - or more specifically the solenoid - or perhaps the ingition switch and/or neutral start swich. Does this reasoning sound correct? Are there other common problems on a W126 that might cause these symptoms? Thanks jlc

Probably a sticky solenoid. You can have it cleaned and/or replaced, but you will have to remove the starter.
