Check the fuse

In my 190e 2.6 which has the 103 engine, the A/C blower fuse is in a black small box that holds two fuses (it's one of them) right infront of the fuse box. It's next to the strut tower mount on the driver side. Mine stopped working and it was that blown fuse.

This is a thank you to MEZA and to others on this forum. I've not had blower motor action on my A/C for the past week. I read the posts and bought a used climate control unit thinking that was why the air flow stopped. I could tell the A/C was working because I could see and feel the condensation at the ports. I read MEZA'S post about a possible fuse that was blown and it could be associated with the fan speed. I checked the little coffin shaped box in front of the large 6x8 inch fuse panel on the driver side and next to the driver side shock absorber upper strut attachment point and it was chalky incrusted and right down the middle it had a crack separation !!!!!!! It was completely broken in half. Now I haven't replaced that fuse yet but I do know THAT fuse was bad. So, it's off to the MB dealer on Monday morning to buy a replacement. (Maybe I'll just buy an extra one!). I'm hoping that piece is the culprit. Thank you again Mercedes Shop Forum and fellow MB owners. The car is a 1990 300 E with 150,000 miles on it.

Talking Blower Motor Problem Solved

This is a follow up on my last post. I went to MBZ dealer today. Bought the little 1.50 30 amp fuse and installed it inside of two minutes. My fan blows at all speeds perfectly now. That was the problem. I am a happy camper again.

The location of the fuse for the blower is in a similar location as the 190E, but it's a single fuse inside the small box, one of these metal strip fuses like Diesels use in the glow plug relay.
Check that first.
The blower is located in the center of the firewall under the windshield wiper assembly, the blower resistor is mounted under the blower motor.

I went through this a few weeks ago and here's what I did BEFORE exploratory surgery;

I put a digital voltmeter on the input to the fusebar which should be hot without a/c turned on. I read battery voltage, about 12.50 volts. I then checked the other side of the fuse to make sure the same voltage was there. The reason is that these bar fuses will sometimes look good but have a hairline crack. With the same voltage on both sides I knew fuse was good.

I THEN turned on the a/c and blower and measured again. The voltage was then about 11.5 volts. This voltage drop told me that most likely there was something preventing the fan from turning, thus dragging down the voltage.

I then removed the wiper motor and the plenum cover to get to the blower on the firewall. Sure enough, when I tried to turn the fan it was VERY stiff to turn. I replaced the motor and all is well.

Although yours is a slightly different model, there is a great pictorial instruction set that was posted a year or so ago by: JSlabotsky. Go look through it for good guidelines in how to replace the motor.

Good luck,

400E AC will not blow cold air

The AC on my '93 400E will not blow cold air. I think the blower motor needs to be replaced. Does anyone know if there is a set of pictures that shows the location of the blower motor and steps to replace it? Also, is it best to buy the motor only, or the motor with fan assemly attached? Any other watch outs as you get into this repair? Thanks for any help you can provide.
