How do I clean the throttle body on an M119 engine?
 

I tried to clean the butterfly valve a couple days ago and could not get to it because there are two screens in the way as well as the mass air flow sensor. I also tried taking off the cylinder that these are in but I could not get the band loose enough. Everything on this engine has a very tight fit! Suggestions?

The mass sensor body does need to come off to get to the throttle body. As I remember, there is a large hose clamp around the rubber connector between the two. I suggest buying a new one of these as I tore one prying off the mass flow sensor before. It is definitely a tight fit, and these parts get brittle.

I tried getting to it, and I did with no room what so ever. After I loosened it, it would not come off, do I have to pull really hard?

I remember that I had to pry with a large screwdriver on alternate sides before it would let go. That ended up tearing that rubber boot connecting the air mass sensor to the throttle body. Is the large hose clamp holding the two together good and loose?

If so, pry away (after you've purchased the new boot, that is.)
