New owner of 88 560SL with some air conditioning coming out the vent but most through the defroster. Brought it back to the dealer and he said that a major part had to be replaced that would take 20-25 hours of labor and cost total $3500-$4000! Service manager calling me Monday to discuss details, any thoughts or ideas of what I could be looking at? Want to be a little informed when he calls, Thanks.

Do a search, you will find lots of info on AC blowing everywhere but the center vents.
$3500????? The Stealer-Dealer is about to rip you off. BEWARE!!!

Low vac will do this, check the condition of the green plastic lines in the engine compartment up by the brake booster.
Best to get a MitiVac hand pump and see if the system holds vac, too -- might be a simple as a bad rubber connector. Worst case is the dash vent vac servo gone bad, and it is a pain to replace. More on the order of $1000, though, not $4000. Peter
