fuse???????
i have an 83' mb 300d. i drove to the store and all gauges and lights worked fine. i came out of the store and started the car and no blinkers, no fuel gauge, no temp gauge, no windows. is ther a fuse that these items run on? none of the fuses in the fuse block under the hood appear to be bad. when i started the car this morning, i let it run for ten minutes and when i got in the battery light was still on, it went out as soon as i revved the motor a little bit. please help fast, this is my only car.

With the motor running, check your battery voltage with a DMM, you should be seeing 13.8-14.1 volts. With the battery light coming on until the RPMs are up I'm leaning towards a new voltage regulator. Should be able to replace the regulator, or brush pack, without having to remove the alternator.

Good point on the drive belt, but since the poster made no complaint about a squallering or squealing belt I made the quantum leap to the regulator. Definitely easy enough to check both out in mere minutes.

Did you get this sorted?
I should have suggested a check for bad earth links, if I had seen your voltage was OK. But worn brushes in the regulator could also be a cause.

problem solved
i found a fuse that was visually good. went to remove it to test with a meter and it crumbled. found arcing under fuse. cleaned area, replace fuse, problem solved. thank-you for your help. i have been bit by this same scenario before with enclosed fuses so i allways do physical checks. should have done that first. my bad.

I know this is shutting the stable door after....... and all that.
But on that age of vehicle it is worth renewing all your fuses now at your leisure - most (apart from the one you have replaced) will be 'tired'.
