86 16v antilock light comes on

Folks,

Came down the hill out of my driveway today and the brake pedal felt wierd, and a few second later the Antilock idiot light came on. I read the operator's manual and it says something to do with the voltage dipped below 10.0V and therefore the Antillock braking system got cut off.

What would be causing this problem any body knows? The OVP relay is less than two months old. Could this problem has something to do with my irractic idle? My idle some times dips below 600rpm momentary.

I got the OVP two months ago and it was made by KAE is this brand any good?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Alex

hey Alex

If you use your brakes alot in the 16v the ABSsensor getts caked
with brake dust and malfuntions .I have had to clean mine a few times.

but the OVP will set the ABSLight on and make starts diffcult too, and a bad idle, I ONCE bought a KAE voltage reg and it was broken before I put it in. so I personally don't like them

Siemans is OEM

Thanks Dave,

I'll check the abs sensors for caked up. I also think this new KAE OVP isn't good, I ordered an OVP from Phill and that was what I got, I didn't know that I have to request any particular brand, I will call Phill tomorrow and see if he can do something for me.

I took a test drive on a 79 911sc with 64k miles today, and that was a POS compare to my 205k miles 16V, may be the newer Porsche are better but that wasn't impressed at all.

I'll keep you posted.

didn't like the SC,???

the 3.0l has 225+ hp stock all catted up, no mods, it is a raw machine with the long shifts and STIFF torsion bars ,
hella fun to drive through

the 16v is a really nice balance of everyday driver and the sporty feel when bangin corners,

good test for the OVP is.. duty will read 100%

Dave,

I thought those flat 6 from a 79 911sc has 180HP, it's a matter of fact that I had read the spec before looking at the car.

There were a few things I didn't like, 1) the clutch was way too hard like an old truck, 2) the clutch pedal and the brake pedal are too dame close to each other, and to the left of the clutch pedal is a big bump that stops you from pressing the clutch down, 3) oil leakage every where, 4) the manual trans feel like my old 3-spd camaro, 5) there are no inner lining under the wheel well to stop salt from getting on the oil container and other vital mechanical parts.

Very bad design if you ask me, I hope the newer porsche are better than that.

The ABS light will also begin to come on when your alternator is going south.

Antilock light still on

Ok, I got the new OEM OVP in the car and a brand new pair of wheel sensors, but the Antilock idiot light still comes on. Occationally the light does goes off, and then will turn on at the next time I brake.

This problem seems to come up when I replaced my alternator, I check the output of the alternator and it gives out 13.7 to 14.1 Volts, I thought this is very good readings, however the alternator is not OEM equipment, is this have some thing to do with reason why my Antilock light being on???

I got this alternator from a local autopart store. It is lifetime warranty, I wonder if I can return for my money back and then buy an OEM alternator.

Thank you for any inputs
Alex
