1991 190e ignition coil

I have a 91 190e and just put a new ignition coil on it. Mechanic tod me it also needs a new distributor cap , rotor , and ignition wires(said it was jumping fire between wires or something like that). I wanted to know if it will damage the new ignition coil if I drive it before I replace the parts mentioned above. By the way- Gilly was right when he mentioned the distributor rotor bracket was the cause of my previous problem of red hot cats and not wanting to go but 10 mph.
