w126 electric window switch removal-how ?
I need to test and remove the driver side window switch that is on the main front console.
It seems like the wood console must be lifted up in order to acess the switch. Is this a matter of removing the ash tray in order to find the screws or is there some other method of lifting the console?w126 1989 300SE Thanks Denis

Remove the ashtray. Under there you will find 2 screws that hold a metal colored bracket. Remove the metal bracket. Now the wood trim can be removed. IMPORTANT. When you remove the wood trim you slide it towards the rear of the car about 1 inch. There is a pin in the back trim piece that you don't want to break. As I said you slide the whole wood trim towards the rear and then raise the rear upward and the whole assembly will come out. The switch wires will still be attached. You can raise the trim about 2-3 inches and then reach under the unit and disconnect the switch plugs and lirror adjusting plug. they will stay in their realative position and you cannot install them incorectly due to pin position.
Now clean up all the junk that has collected in there over the last 20 years. Dave Additionally having the ashtray removed allows you to remove the coin tray in front of the wood trim.

Denis,
By removing the coin tray you will be able to completely lift the center wood. Be sure to slide the whole assembly forward about 10mm before trying to lift as there are two "L" shaped legs that hold the panel down tight. Should you find the front lip broken (where the coin tray fits in), follow the directions in this post . An easy repair if all the pieces are present.

Thanks dmorrison and MikeTangas! That is a great help.
Maybe I'll get into it today. p.s. Mike, I still am getting around to replacing the front grill on my 300D, the one I bought from you with the black insert grill. I've been busy and out of town alot. Now I have the w126 with things to repair. Denis
