I have a 1992 500SL. I started the car this morning and the climate control system was "dead". The fan did not come on, there was no response whatever. There had been no hint of a problem prior to today. Any ideas about the cause/solution?

Possibly related, there has been an occasional high pitched whine on startup that I could never relate to anything.
Thanks,
JR
