Ya'll, I have an 83 300D turbo. I'm trying to get some stereo upgrade stuff from Crutchfields, and they don't list a 300D, only a 300D-T. What's up with that? Thanks.

Ransky,

Yes a 300D and 300D-T are the same. It just means it's a Turbo Diesel. I have an '85 300D-T. If the "T" comes before the "D" then it's a station wagon.

Not all 300D's have the turbocharger, though. I believe the turbocharger was standard on all 300D's of model year 1981 (maybe 1980?) and later.

The expression "300D-T" seems to have come about as a way to tell the turbos from the non-turbos.

The first 300D turbo came out in the US in 1982 in the 123 body. From 1977-1981 the 123 300D did not have a turbo. In 1976, Mercedes put the five cylinder in a 114 body and called it a 300D.

Same for the wagons (300TD). They got the turbo in 1982. Does anyone know what the "T" stands for, presumably it's German?

Sorry, the T stands for Touring, German for station-wagon. BMW use the full word.

According to my book, for U.S. model only, 300TD got its turbo starting 1981 and 300D started turbo in 1982.
