Looking to upgrade original speakers

I posted this on the Car Audio site but go no hits. I'll try it here too.

I am almost totally clueless when talking about stereo components. I am looking to replace the stock speakers in my '94 E320 wagon. I think they are 5"(?) Speakers. I would like to change the front dash, lower front door and rear door speakers. I currently have the stock radio (what kind is it - a Becker?). Can someone give me a recommendation as to what brand speaker to put in and where to get it? I also have future plans to finaly put in the CD changer. I've heard that putting in an Alpine is cheaper than what MB puts in. Is this true?

In terms of the dash speakers, the size is strange, and there are only a limited number of models that will fit. Some folks have performed creative surgery. Others have put them in the doors instead. I have not touched mine yet. Do a seach in Car Audio on "Front Speakers". Lots of info.

In terms of a CD changer, I suggest getting a CD player that supports MP3 playback instead. You can rip 10+ regular CDs onto a single CD in MP3 format, and delete the tracks you do not like in the process. Cheaper hardware, and less baggage to carry around.

I agree with csnow. Most alpines have mp3 read capability now. atleast the high end ones. you can find good prices at www.hookedontronics.com i bought some stuff there and was pretty good. or you can get the 6 cd changer by alpine that reads mp3's and then hook that up to a regular alpine head unit as long as it's compatible with the mp3 changer.
as for the speakers try doing a search in the audio section for 300e speakers. there are tons of very helpful posts. I know since I did the search for mine and found eveything I wanted to find interms of info.
for wiring information you can visit www.the12volt.com
good luck !
