Noisy lifter on '94 E320

How do you fix a noisy valve lifter. A mechanic told me to add oil additive in the engine. The car had a valve job at 124000 miles. It has 136000 miles now. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

i'm not sure if you are having the same prob like i had, initially i tought the lifters were noisy too. since they are self adjustable there's nothing much i can do bout it, i did add additives and changed some parts here & there but it didn't help. it was later i found out that noise actually came from a warped manifold, got it replaced and problem solved. i would sugggest you listen carefully 1st before you replace the lifters.

I've got one that makes a little noise on a cold start but quickly goes away when it warms up. Changing to Mobil 1 0W-40 helped it quiet down much faster, it only ticks for about 3 seconds now whereas it used to tick for about 10 minutes using Mobil 1 15W-50. If it ticks all of the time than you either have a bit of sludge stuck in it or the lifter itself is bad (not pumping up properly).
