1989 190E 2.6L Timing

I'm putting the cylinder head on the engine, and can't find good instructions on how to set the timing. Does anyone have any good pictures? Or can someone tell me what numbers or notch to set the crank to? Also, the cam is supposed to be set to the notch mark. But there's three of them! Two are fat marks. One is this skinny little sliver. If anyone has a link to some good pics, or to a good shop manual, please share. Setting the timing is all that's holding me up on this engine. My friend printed out some pics from his work, but they're too vauge, and the last thing I want is to do this twice. Thanks in advance.

For $18 you can subscribe to the Mercedes info site that should have all the info you need and much more. Check it out. WWW.startekinfo.com. Hope this helps, Robert.

Assuming your '89 is set up like my '88 (I believe all M103s are similarly set up), the initial ignition timing is not adjustable. As long as the crankshaft position sensor and balancer are installed properly the igniton timing should be correct.

The crank position sensor sends a location reference signal to the EZL module when the radial dowel pin passes the sensor and the EZL module determines the timing requirment based on engine revs, manifold vacuum, and idle position sensor swtich on the KE throttle valve shaft

Just check that the initial timing is in spec after you start it up.

That link you posted looks like it's got some good info, but it says it's for 94 and up and has some prior cars. So I'm not sure if it has what I need.
