Connection-Help-84-300-SD

Today I pulled out the passenger side carpet and their was a connector(about 10 pins) just laying there disconnected...It is located about half way up the firewall(midway between the floor and glove compartment)..What is it for...I plugged it in and could not get into the trunk...HELP...Thanks for any input
