E320 Climate Control OBD Codes

The Sep/Oct 2003 issue of The Star had an excellent article on "OBD II Fault Identification".

At the very end of the article, it points out a feature that I did not know about on the MB--seems like there is always something to learn.

If you press the REST button on the Climate Control for 10 seconds, the climate display will "vanish" and a number will appear on the left side (parameter #) and right side (value). You can cycle thru them using the Auto button.

The author only provides 9 of the available 44. For example, parameter 03 is heater core temp; parameter 06 is coolant temp
(pg 94 has the list of the 9 that the author provided).

I've already brought this up on my 1996 E320 and it works as described. I just need to get a complete listing of the codes that are being provided.

Does anyone else know about this feature and can you either provide or direct me to an on-line site with the complete lisiting?

THANKS!

- Jon :)

Old news. Lists are in the posts. Do a search for "PBU Codes" or other code lists. This thread has some too:

Thanks for the info and sorry for redundant post. Before asking, I had tried about 5 different search criteria and could not find what you provided me with. I figured someone would know where to direct me.

Thx.

Don't feel bad.

I struggle with the "search" function. I put in everything I can think of when searching for info, and never seem to find it.

No need to apologize. If you've searched already, let us know so we can point you in the right direction. I also wanted to let you know that this is not new to the forum, and therefore don't expect a flurry of posts concerning it.

Kinda neat of MB to have some of the on-line sensors accessible, eh? (My Canadian accet...)

Just for your personal edification (its probably old news), there are two other features that can be addressed on the PBC (pushbutton controller). The fault codes can be listed and the all the air ducts activated in a precise functional manner.

I wrote an article for "Import Car" trade publication on this exact subject and it can be seen here: (the tables of values are for your car in the article)

Steve:

Glad I asked this question. Your article is a gem to read. Thx for putting the link up for everyone.

Does anyone have any details on this procedure for the 202? I tried pushing the rest button for 10 seconds last night and it did appear to go into the diagnostic mode, but with only one set of digits on the left, they alternated 01 and 68 which I assume meant location 01 value 68. Only problem is I could not figure out how to get to the next location. Tried the auto button and the up down buttons and they didn't seem to do anything. Just curious.

Thanks,
Mike

PBU codes question?

Thanks to many of you on this site, I was able to follow the procedures for pulling climate control fault codes, well almost. Two questions.

1) I am not getting any fault codes mentioned in various threads. All I am getting is E on the left side screen and FF on the right side. Does anyone know what E -- FF means?

2) Taking a wild guess that FF could mean filtration filter, does anyone know how to replace dust filters ( not the charcoal filters)? The charcoal filters are pretty easy to access but is there an easy way to access the dust filters, that appears to be located on top of heater unit, below the glove compartment.

I have a 1998 E320 (w210) with 70,000 miles and no cold air at the moment.

Thanks,
