Need Info on 2001 E430

I'm looking at a 2001 E430 w/Vin # WDBJF70J0J11B173454. This is a low mileage car that went into service in November of 2000.

Can some tell he how I can find out if this car has the latest version of the 5 speed automatic and the latest version of the harmonic balancer?

Any help would be appreciated.

The transmission is constantly changing, the most severe changes occured much earlier. The balancer definetly was changed by then and is cheap anyway.

I am currently looking to buy a E430 and I am looking at 00-01 cars. I have given no consideration to trans type or balancer, but I really wouldn't worry about any E430 trans and the balancer is $70 or so list. The numbers are easy to see on the balancer and if the last four didgets are 00 00 then change it. We did a 99 SL500 this week with a 00 00 and it was probably within days of coming apart. We were only there because of an alternator problem. he sure was lucky that alt took a dump.

A 01 will have the latest version of the .6 and if you doubt the balancer, replace it, they are not that expensive. Either that or call you local benz parts dept and get the latest part # and look on the pulley itself for the #, I think the new design is a 00 instead of a 01. Do not hold me to that howeer, as I have slept since I looked at one.

We have done so many that all the tech needs to say is oh, oh and we know the story. They 00, 05, 06 and one of the numbers 08 or 09 are old. I don't remember whether the new number is 112 035 08 00 or 112 035 09 00 but any 00, 01, 05, 06 are old numbers. Done so many I remember the whole bad original number without loooking, at home.

Hey Steve,

Are you looking at replacing the 98 ML, or are you just looking for an additional Benz? Also, I have a 2000 E55. Did they have balancer problems as well, or was it only the E320 and E430? Thanks.

This car is from a dealer who sold it originally. It has 23K on it.

I wonder why dealers don't check the balancer when a car is in for service. It seems like something they all should be doing.

It's not the cost of replacing the balancer that I'm worried about but I don't want to have the thing come apart while I'm on vacation or while my wife is driving it.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for the Info.

Now if only this car had some other color than white

I sold my 540i as I had it for 3 years. I hadn't put it for sale, but an old customer asked me about it and I had always planned on rotating the car I drive. The 540 is such a special car that I really can't think of enjoying anything else.

Right now the middle size MB is available at a price I can do better with in a year. Then prices on M5s should have dropped significantly.

As to the balancer, its my conception that all early 112/113 motors use the same balancer.

The box on my new balancer has the part # 112 035 08 00
