126 CCU removal?
How do you remove the CCU on my 87 420SEL? Does the Becker radio have to come out?
I would have looked at it a little longer, but it's quite cold outside right now and I don't want to risk breaking anything... |

yes the radio has to come out.
typical procedure: 1) remove ashtray, remove phillips screws that hold the ashtray assembly in place. 2) remote radio, I believe it differs model to model. I know in my 1st gen 126, I could get it out with some universal din removal tools (basically U shaped pieces of metal, if you have a coat hanger you could make one) 3) remove the wood paneling, should be held in by two phillips screws just above the radio. 4) If I am not mistaken the 2nd gen w126's the ccu unit was mounted to the wood as opposed to the 1st gen where the ccu was mounted to some armatures that comes out. Hopefully that helps. Most of my experience is from 1st gen stuff but shouldn't be all that different.

Got it out in 15 minutes. My radio was just a pullout which made it really easy.
