What tissue or cloth do you use for checking AT fluid dip stick?
1992 Mercedes 300D.
The manual says that the Automatic transmission is very sensitive to dust particles. So I think I need clean lint-free cloth or paper to check the transmission fluid level. What do you use? |

As I once asked my always clean CPA son-in-law:
"What DO men who don't work on their own cars do with their worn out underwear?"

Don't use a rag (or even old underwear ).
Use paper or your fingers. The cotton or synthetic materials in a rag can jam things up, but the paper fibers in a paper towel the valves in the transmission can disintegrate. (This is per MB) Gilly |

After seeing a technician(mechanic) at a MB dealership pull a dirty rag from his hip pocket to check ATF fluid, I never went back.

What about napkin and kitchen towel (paper)? Do they belong to paper towel?

Chamois
I cut a piece of chamois and keep it in a tiny ziplock in the trunk.
