when to replace 300E engine mounts?
My 87 300E has 320K miles. A recent MB club mag (Star) told how to change the engine mounts in its driveway mechanic article. I have not changed engine or trans mounts for 7 years or 135K miles. How do I tell if they are bad? Should I change them anyway? There is a tech session next Sat.
Thanks |

The lower portion of the motor mount is BELL shaped. You should replace the mount when there is less than 13 mm clearance between that portion of the mount & the crossmember the the mount sits on.

My 300E has 280,000 Km on it and I've having the mounts done soon - they need to be replaced as diagnosed by my tech. I had complained to him that my idle seemed rougher than usual with slight tremors through the chassis. Turned out the mounts are toast. Not an expensive job.
