Hi all,
Just got back my '91 190e 2.6 after getting the timing chain done. My shop noticed that the water pump bypass hose is split. I took a look at it. The black covering is worn away in one spot and the hose is starting to bulge through the opening. The hose is not leaking right now. They recommended that I might as well change the water pump if I have to have the hose done. Is there anyway to temporarily reinforce this hose for another month? Am I playing with fire here? (i.e., should I get it done ASAP?) Thanks, Rick '91 190e 2.6 134K miles |

I would recommend replacing the hose ASAP. If the cost is not too prohibitive go ahead and do the water pump too. If that hose goes you will be by the road or you stand the chance of ruining the engine if you keep driving. It is easier to replace in the driveway than beside the road.

The only way to replace this hose is to take off the water pump. When you disturb it, you will have a leak soon.
