Brake pedal bushings replacement. Help!

My 95 E420 brake pedal makes a noise whenever depressed. MB service department tells me that I need new brake pedal bushings. I ordered the parts ($3 in total). Is it easy to replace them myself (average DIYer)? I am told that it takes two one from each side. Dealer wants too much $$ for this, rather sounds like simple job. Any detailed instructions will be greatly appreciated.

This may sound stupid but did you already tried WD 40 or a dry lubricant ? You could be surprised !
Do you have play on the brake pedal ? Otherwise you wouldn't need new bushings at all !

I'll give it a shot. I was at the dealer for some work done on the car when i asked them to tell me what's causing the noise and they came back with bushings need replacement. I'll try to take a look myself and spray some WD40 or something. Thanks for the idea.

I would use a silicone spray instead.

WD40, although great stuff in the right application, is petroleum based and any over-spray will attract dirt even more than silicone.

It also will more rapidly degrade rubber where silicone will help protect it.

I have a 1994 S320 that I think has the same problem. I tried once to lubricate the entire brake pedal system, but it was of no help. It is possible that this is the problem, but how could I know and how difficult it would be to change this bushings?. Thank you.

if no help, I'll have to replace the bushings. The dealer wants too much for this job (i think they asked for $188) even though the parts themselves cost $3-4 which tells me that it maybe a more involved labor/task than what it sounds.

The dealer always wants an arm and leg for even the smallest thing. Why don't you try taking it to another place that is not the dealer, but that is familiar with Mercedes Benz. Here in Miami the prices for service at the dealer are ridiculous, so I try take it to other places that I know and that can give the same service. Specially when it is something that seems to be simple. Good luck and let me know if changing the bushing helped to get rid of the sound.
