Power Lock Problem

My power lock quit. Gotta unlock all of them manually now. All the MB guys around here tell me they are vacume but i cannot find any vacume lines in the doors at all. All i see is 3 wires going to the lock solinoid. No vacume lines. It is an 81 126 body. Any ideas???

do a search

You should do a search. From what I have read in other threads this could posibly be the vacuum lock pump. On your car I do not know where it is lcoated. But do a search and you will find tons of info!!

Also, since all went out. have you checked the vacuum lines to make certain taht one has not broken or become unplugged? Have you done recent service to the vehicle where by accident you or your mecanic could have unplugged a vacuum line?

If you see a lock solenoid, that is indeed strange. If it is a US spec car it was delivered with central locking actuated by vacuum and pressure; vacuum to lock, pressure to unlock. There is a hard plastic line going to the lock actuator in each door, not a rubber hose.

Check for a central locking pump in the spare tire well. It will be wrapped in a thick layer of foam. Have someone turn the key back and forth in the driver side lock and listen/feel for the pump to activate for a couple of seconds with each turn of the key. If it doesn't, the problem could be a signal to the pump. If the pump activates, see if the downstream end of the line connected to the pump holds a vacuum. If it doesn't, you have a leak in the system. If it holds a vacuum, there's a problem with the internal switching of the pump.

OK....this may sound a bit strange, but when my 93 300E's door locks quit I looked everywhere. I was also having some problems with my power antenna, so I went through the wiring there to problem solve it also. It took me by surprise, but I noticed that the two problems were both tied to the power wire for the antenna. When it was not making a good connection, the door locks as well as the antenna quit. I couldn't believe that there was any connection, but after disconnecting and reconnecting a few times and seeing a pattern, there is definately a tie-in. Sounds weird, but I've seen some strange things when it comes to the wiring on my 300E.
