How to remove Coolant Temp Sensor’s connector?

I need to test/replace the CTS on my 95 E420 which has a round connector. Somehow there is a wire or some clip that keeps the connector from being removed. Could someone tell me how do I remove this clip without damaging the connector or loosing the clip itself? Is there a special tool for this? Thanks

hi,

it should be straigtforward.

it has what is called a circlip-which is like a circular piece of wire holding the base of the plastic connecter in place.

with a nose pliers-(do not know what you call it in the u.s).-it is a pair of pliers but with a pointed nose ,with which you can grasp the circlip and pull it off gently making sure you have a firm grip on it with the pliers during removal.

once the clip is off, then the connector should come off easily.

replacing the clip on refitting the connector -just push it into the groove at the base of the connector-job done.

hope this helps

Thanks for the help!

Yes, I meant the Coolant Temp Sensor which has 4-pins and a circular connector. I now see the circlip and will follow your instruction on removing it.

It's not necessary to remove the circlip. You should be able to just pull the connector off of the sensor.

RPM55, Do I

Pull straight up or do I need to first rotate round connector right or left then pull up? Are you sure this is the normal way to unplug the connector? Just don't want the circlip to fly off. Thanks in advance for any further clarification.
