What is this?

The picture below is a little motor that is located behing/underneath the passanger side air vent. It is making a little squecking noise at start up and only for a few seconds. It has about a 1/2" house conected to it. What does this little motor do and what is the hose for and where does it connect?

Thanks

Iggy

In my haste to post my first pic, I forgot to mention the type of car.

yea, its a little motor that sucks air through the inside temp sensor for the heating and cooling system. might be able to silence it with a drop of atf.

But it is normal that it turns on when I have the key in the number 1 position? Or is that a sign of another problem?

Will give it a drop of atf to silience it.

Thanks,
Iggy
