280te rough idle/stall

hi there,

i've just bought a 1982 280te blind! it was very cheap, apparently it was working fine before being left for six months since when it has developed a rough idle/stalling problem.

i just thought i would post this to see if anyone had any thoughts about this. i am trying to avoid going to the expense of a trailer etc to get it home about 35 miles from it's storage.

is it wise to just turn the engine on and run it hoping the problem will disappear, ie blocked jets or something like that. or can this damage the engine.

i realise that this is a broad question but any thoughts will be most welcome as i have to start somewhere and also have to pick it up in the next few days.

many thanks as always.

justin

I have an 81 280 TE and had a similar problem after letting it sit for a couple of weeks with a tank only 1/4 full. My problem was water in the fuel and I was able to fix it using some fresh fuel and a bottle of dry gas.

PS I am also in the process of selling the car if any one is interested. I have purchased a newer vehicle and no longer need the MB.
