I had a fairly bad accident. I hit on the front end, mostly on the dead front and passenger corner. It smashed the front end in, and twisted the motor sideways. The hood is buckled about 10" high. The front quarter panels were smashed back and the doors are unable to open. Needless to say, the insurance comapny has totaled it. My question is: why didn't my airbags go off? I mean, I'm glad they didn't because I didn't get one scratch, but what if I could have got hurt and they didn't go off? Any ideas. Thank God I was in a MB instead of a Ford or Geo Metro :) Oh, it was in my '92 300E.

You answered your own question...You didn't get a scratch. The control unit is programed with many thresholds. All of them must be met so the bags will go off.
Your car didn't deem it necessary to blow the bags, and you are OK. The energy absorbtion of the body and chasis of the car was enough. ------------------ Benzmac: Donnie Drummonds 1992 500E (very soon I hope :) 1981 280GE SWB ASE CERTIFIED MASTER AUTO TECHNICIAN SERVICE MANAGER FOR 14 BAY FACILITY MERCEDES SPECIALIST 8 YRS PARTNER IN MERCEDESSHOP.COM |
