Exhaust system reinforcement
As i looked under my car i saw that it appears the only thing supporting my exhaust system are the mount by the transmission and a mount at the rear muffler. So it looks like the rest is unsupported. Has anyone ever added some type of support to hold the rest of the system in place in order to reduce stress on the joints? I was thinking of doing this but not sure where to place.
Thanks in advance. Josh

OE MB exhaust systems are very long-lived. Your solution may be in search of a problem...

Wouldn't hurt to inspect the mountings and the "donuts" that hold the muffler on. More than a few W201 owner has had their rear muffler suddenly "fall off" onto the street because of stress failure when the mounts deteriorate and are left hanging on their own. It's a maintenance thing that most of us forget.

Good point MTI. MB exhaust can often outlive the hangers.
Around here, snowbanks are a big exhaust killer. The snow can knock the exhaust off the hangers, or tear marginal hangers. Happens a lot.

Having replaced all our donuts, I know there is at least one additional support, accesible from the right side at the rear of the resonator (front muffler).
