Transmission help

I have a 1982 300sd with a harsh reverse engagment, a medium flare in the 3-4 shift (especially when tranny is cold), and a clunk in the 4-3 shift when slowing down to a stop. Any ideas? I think tranny was rebuilt at 125k, now has 224k.

How many miles since last service? How did the fluid look?
Not un-common for "coolant" from trans cooler to SEEP into the fluid.

trans help

Thanks mb doc for the quick reply. Trans fluid and filter was changed at 209k, so we have 15k on it. Color is nice clear red. Radiator was replaced at about 210.5k. Have not added any fluid since change.
