W124 4Matic question
I know the 4Matic in the W124 is really a $Matic and it leaks all the time. My question is
If the transfer case leaks, could it be turned off and then use it as a RWD car? Would it affect anyting else? Thanks, I am looking at a 1991 300E wagon 4Matic. |

4Matic into 2Matic
Bo,
Many of us run our W124 4matics in 2Matic mode when all wheel drive is not needed. This helps to preserve the transfer case. Just flip the yellow test lever over and voila: you are in rear wheel drive. The 4matic light will come on, in the dash. Regards, Bob

Is the "yellow Test Lever" on the 4 Matic Transfer case itself? If not, would you please tell me where it is located. Thanks

The test lever is in the engine compartment on the left side.
