To begin with. Thanks to may posts here on the forum and special help from Mike Y, I have almost fixed my sunroof. Just one last thing to be verified. But, before I get to that, I will post some pics and explanations in case this could help anyone in the future.
The Problem The paasenger side rear corner of the sunroof would not close flush with the roof of the car. Additionally, The pop up feature would not work. |

the head liner from the sunroof, finished opneing the sunroof all the way. From there, grab a hold of the headliner and pulled up a little and then pulled out!!!
What I saw was the following after closing the sunroof w/o the liner on. What you are looking at are the tilt brakets! Specifically, the passanger side one. |

Now the original probelm was that the passenger side tilt angle was disenganged from a round little pully like thing or something. Like a little guide ball. Popped it back in and now the roof operates as it should.
The current problem is that after fixing it and working it back and forth various times, it worked and I left it and wnet on to other things. I cam back to the car a little later and played with the roof again and the tilt angle does not come untracked again but it gets a little stuck sometimes. So my question now is, why could this be? It is not broken or anything but it seems to get tangled a little bit on like every other opening? Could it be that the roof needs adjustement? Thanks, Iggy P.S. The car is dirty because it was extremely windy here last night and blew up a lot of dust. |
look, these sunroofs are flimsy. your problem is that things are
bent. you really need both side units and the bar that goes across. this is a job i hate. you can chase this for a long time but untill you put new parts in there it wont work. get the mercedes lube to lube things up. george |
Dear Mbshop
Thanks for the reply. What do you mean by both side units? The Tilt Angle Brackets? Can they bend? They are made of plastic. As for the bar that goes across, what do you mean by this? Or is that you mean it is flimsy now because I have not reinstalled the headliner? Should it tighten up or function better with the headliner installed? Iggy |
tilt angle brackets or end units. they are made of plastic and twist or break. they need to be replaced. also when there are problems the cross bar tends to tweak and can cause problems.
if you don't replace all with new parts at the same time you will wind up chasing yourself. learned this lesson early when i started to repair the new pop up sunroofs. george |
Thanks for taking the time to document the task with photographs. Sometimes a simple picture can make a job go MUCH quicker.
I'll be tackinling this job in the springtime:) Mike |
