1998 C230 Check engine light, codes P0300, P0301, P0302, P0170.
My fathers C230 check engine light came on recently. I read the codes with an OBDII scanner. I recieved codes:
P0300=Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected P0301=Cylinder 1 Misfire Detected P0302=Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected P0170=Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 1) Any ideas of where to start looking? I am planning on taking the wires and plugs out to check on their condition. I have read on this forum that the MAS is a problem area on this model. I hate to buy it first without knowing for sure. Thanks in advance, Steve

More likely than not the air mass sensor is reporting back incorrect info to the fuel computer & the fuel mixture is too LEAN.
With many scan tools live data is avail, look at self-adaptation figures. IF the correction factor is around 1.3 then you need a new MAS. That also should correct the mis-fires as well.
