Question squeeling front wheel

I have a 1977 450sl and when I make a left turn, the left wheel makes a metalic squeeling sound. This goes away as soon as I straighten out. It does not happen when I turn right. Other than the advise of "don't turn left" what should I look for?

Is it metallic or is it a tire scrubbing sideways because it isn't turning enough (ie. one isn't turning as sharply as the other one)?

My W126 300SDL used to do this. I could hear it best in parking garages where the echo would amplify the noise. Turned out a new set of front ball joints fixed it -- one was siezed and the other was loose. Noise went away completely after install of the new joints.

No, it is not the ball joints (just replaced last month) This is almost like the sound of a metal wire scraping against metal. It is hard to describe. It increases in sound and then fades away as I straighten direction.

Does it happen while you're turning the steering wheel or once it's already turned?

If it is a noise that occurs while you're turning the wheel, then goes away as you're holding the turn, I'd check the P/S pump next.
