1984 190E Rear Doors

The rear doors on my 84 190E cannot be opened from the outside only the inside. The rear door on the drivers side will not open from either the inside or the outside. The door locks seem to be working. Any ideas as a fix.

Would have to guess linkage came off or someone worked on the doors and didn't reconnect the linkage. Pretty bad scenario on the left rear if you can't get it opened at all, probably damage the inner door panel getting it off without being able to open the door. Seen it done, didn't look pretty. Do the lock knobs on the rear door both seem to be "connected" to something or real loose feel to the lock knobs? Course if the lock knobs go up and down when lock or unlocking the doors, they are connected to the lock servos, so may be hard to tell. Do the outside handles seem to be pulling on the latch? Compare the feel of the rear outside handles when trying to open the doors to the front doors...

190E rear doors

The door lock knobs go up and down when locking. The handles on the outside pull out about an inch then, nothing. Doesn't feel like there connected to anything.

I am the second owner and did not get a owners manual. I originally thought because both doors did the same thing that maybe it was a MB safety feature.

I'm willing to strip the guts out and fix whatever it needs if that's what it'll take. Just hoping it was a easy fix.

Repair the door that WILL open to understand the system. The outer handle comes off without removing the inner panel, although you may end up needing to remove the panel anyways to fix the inner handle problem. The hole to allow you to remove the outer handle is under the weatherstrip I believe.
