Re-sealling & Re-building Tranny 300E
the leak in my tranny has worsen. the indy tranny shop
said i have a choice whether i wanted them to just fix the leak, which most likely are o-rings and/or gaskets, or to take the tranny apart and replace all rubber parts. when i said my tranny will then be re=built, the guy said no. it will just be sealed, given the mileage of the car at 160k. what then is the difference between rebuilding and resealing the tranny. thanks!! |
Rebuilding involves also renewing the friction linings in the tranny, cleaning the gears and bringing all the tolerances and clearances back within spec as well as resealing the clutch packs and internals. Also, any upgrades are usually applied to rebuilt trannies.
