Cd Changer Prewiring
I just purchased a 99 E300DT. It has the Bose sound system but no CD changer. I called MB and they said it would definitely be prewired. However, I have searched the left and ride sides of the truck and can't find any wiring for the changer. Is it possible it was not prewired or am I not looking at the right place.
Thanx. Dave |
Welcome to MB shop
It's there. On the left (drivers) side of the trunk. You need to remove the panel completely, it'll be wire-tied to the inner support (metal bracing). This is a fiber optic system, so the prewiring will consist of 2 rather thick looking "wires", which are actually fiber optic cables. They will lead to a black angled connector with a green protective cap covering the tips. Don't mess with the tips (no touchee!). There will also be a small 3-wire connector which will also plug into the changer. Gilly |
Thanx, Gilly.
I'll take your word for it, but I thought I looked pretty good. I guess I better have someone do it that knows more than I . . . but first . . . I pulled the changer out of my S320 . . . will it work in this '99? It is a MB changer. Thanx again. |
Depends on the year. If the S320 was fiber-optic, then it should work. If it just has the big 10 pin or so electrical connector, then it won't.

Oh, I think it was the 10 pin. I guess that's a bummer!

Yup
You can contact the moderator of the "Car Audio" forum here at MB Shop and possibly get a good deal on one that is appropriate for your car. Gilly |
Thanx, I'll do that this evening.
