300CE, 1990 Diagnostic Help
When pulling away at about 20mph, transmission dropped to 2nd, very loud bang.
Speedo to max, rev counter to max. Gearbox is auto. Any ideas ?

Ugh. Sounds like something broke! Check the flex disk, you might be lucky and have sheared it off, but usually you get some warning there.
Otherwise, I'd suspect a broken clutch drum in the tranny or sheared bolts on the torque converter. Could even be the main shaft in the tranny, but for sure if it's not a flex disk, it's tranny time! Small outside chance you have a broken rear axle or diff, too -- does the driveshaft turn independent of the wheels? Peter
