Lubricating all W123 cables.
Did a search and found little info on lubricating ALL the cables on the W123. I will specify the 240D that my daughter has. It has the most cables so that should cover all of them. For other models add your knowledge. Some don't have cables and I know that Mercedes does not recommend lubricating the
I could not find a job order in the MM or SM for this so I want everyones advise. I will admit that I have been lazy in lubrcating the cables in my 300TD so with my daughters car and mine I will be "getting to it". If you can add anything I miss please jump in. Any recommendations on how and what lubricant is appreciated. Of concern would be lube dripping into the car if over lubricated (so the how much question) and any access to the cable for lubing. It there is no access into the housing then it is probably factory sealed and replacing is probably best. Do you agree? Any addtional "ease of access" tips are of course wanted. Hood cable? What lube, how and how much? Idle speed adjustment. What lube, how and how much? Speedometer cable. ( Do a search, lots on this) After reading the posts about this. It is probaly easier and cheaper to just replace it. By the time you get into the dash and do your work you could replace it with a new one ($44 at Fastlane for the automatic). Otherwise, what lube (probably speedometer lube), how and how much. Parking brake cable, all 3 sleeves! What lube, how and how much. Concerns. Lube dripping down and out the housing from the pedal in the car is not a concern to me. But from the individual wheel cables into the parking brake assemble would concrn me. don't want any grease or lube in the brake setup. Sunroof The SM (Job 77-140) calls for MB slide paste. And is done when installing a new flexcable. But how do you, or should you add slide paste as a preventive measure without R+R the flexcable, since it looks like a sunroof removal to get access, read big job. AC cables. The 240D (300D/TD/CD auto AC has none) has 4 cables to my knowledge. New to the 240D so I may be incorrect on the number. 1 for heat left side. 1 for heat right side. 1 for defroster flap. 1 for floor flap. For the bowden cables to the heater valve the SM (Job 83-112) does not call for any cable lube. So if doing it what lube how and how much? For the defroster and floor cable the same. What lube, how and how much. So what have I forgotten? Dave
