how to clear check engine 1993 300E

I was able to clear all fault codes, 6 of them. The car runs good for now.
Read most of the fault code threads but I don't see anything on exactly how to clear the check engine light.
thanks

It's been a while since I've done it, but after you've checked the codes, wait at least two seconds, then hold the button down for six seconds. Each code must be erased individually.

If you still have a check engine light, then you either have a new code, or you still have an old code that you didn't erase.

I saw your earlier post with all of the various fault codes. You had so many that I couldn't offer any advice.

My guess is that some of the codes could be old, i.e. when a part was replaced or disconected, it sometimes stores a code.

You should also know that when you have one particular problem, it frequently sets off other codes. The problem is knowing which codes are real (germaine to your problem), and which codes are ancillary.

I'm nearly 100% confindent that you do have a problem, otherwise code(s) wouldn't have been stored, and your check engine light wouldn't have illuminated.

You should also be aware that there are 26 individual systems that will cause a check engine light to be illuminated. Your diagnostic module stores many codes, but only the 26 codes, all of them related to smog emissions, will trip a check engine light.

Very common codes on your engine (and mine) are related to the O2 sensor, the EGR system, and the transmission upshift delay valve.

Thanks SUGINAMI, the car has been acting up afew times. Last time was the OVP, I was able to re-solder the board and it run fine for a while. Some codes could have been from then. Now the engine runs fine and I only get one flash when I look for codes, I was able to clear the codes, I'll check again for one more.
Do you know hoe to check for more faults, using the other connectors in the box. 1-24 I think.
It is always my wife that is driving. I keep trying to take the car back but somehow she keeps working herself into the driver seat. She likes the car.

I know you replaced the headlights on yours, what lights did you install? I remeber seeing pics of your car, very cool ride I may add.

Been a while since I tried to manually erase the DM (diagnostic module).

I'm thinking your best bet would be to find your radio code and disconnect the battery.

thanks stevebfl, tried disconnecting the battery and the check engine came back. I don't have any fault codes though.

OVP's can't be resoldered or repaired. If you haven't replaced it since, I'd do so.

If you only get onen flash on the DM, then you've cleared the codes.

You can make a simple tester with parts bought at radio shack to check the flash codes for the other holes in the DM. Send me an e-mail and I'll send you a jpeg. The jpeg is on my other computer so I can't send it right now.

I think most guys that hang around here on the shop forum have replaced their head lights with orginal Euro headlights. They put out about 400% more light. No exaggeration. There are many, many sources for Euro's. Let me know if your interested and I can tell you where to find them.

You can also try the search function, as there is tons and tons of info in the archive. ebennz is the euro guru, in my opinion. omegabenz put together a group buy recently, too, and might be able to hook you up.

Thanks again Paul, yea please end me the Jpeg for the tester.
I've seen some of the posts regarding lights, being that you have the same car I was looking at minimizing the risk and doing the same work you did. The original lights really suck.

Meanwhile, please enjoy a pic of the front of my car.

Notice the Euro lights, the painted bumper impact strip, and the S600-style grill:

Paul,

I like your car as well! It reminds me of my silver 1994 E320. Here are a few pics.

The grill is an aftermarket grill that looks like the grill on a W140 chassis S600. They are also sometimes referred to as Avantgarde style grills.

These grills are available for C, E, and S classes.

If you have a 1994-1995 W124, then they are widely available.

If you have a 1986-1993 W124, then there is only one website in the U.S. that sells it:

www.formymercedes.com

There are two websites in Germany that sell these grills. I have ordered many parts from both websites:

www.eris-car.de
www.matrixcar.de

Most guys that replace their turn signals, also called front corners, install clear corners. Mine are original equipment clear / yellow corners that came on 1994-1995 W124's.
