I have 1990 300E. I recently replaced fan clutch bearing bracket. I doing do, I somehow scratched off the plastic cover from the bottom of the sensor. So, now I can see the metal of the magnet. The car is running fine. Should I be worried that the sensor may not be working?

It's my opinion that the sensor should still be fine. I mean, obviously one would wonder "Why would they install the covering if it isn't neccesary?". Answer: "Beats the crap outta me", but if it's running good, I really don't think it's that important.
