Mercedes 300E 124 Series 1991

Dear Colleagues

Despite running well this car occasionally cuts out when stopping on an incline and sometimes also when just pulling away from an uphill stop. Dash lights all stay on and the car readily starts on the turn of the key.

On a prior occasion a serviceman said that slow town stop-start driving reduces sparkplug life and more frequent plug replacements should solve the problem. I believe it did for a long period, but I have noticed that in Park, idling is just under 700rpm and in Drive it drops back to just over 500rpm.

Could/should I be looking for some other possible causes of these cut-out episodes--or does plug changing and idle setting seem appropriate?

Here's hoping someone else has tackled a prob' like this.

Guidance will be very much appreciated

sincerely

Ed
