Hello, I'm new to the group. I am 18 years old and live in the uk and I have just bought a 1989 300se with 130,000 miles.
It may be a really stupid question, but how do I change the oil and filter? (I mean where is the little bolt to open etc?) Also 2 lights behind switches on the centre console have gone out. It's not the fuses. any ideas appreciated! Thanks in advance! Oliver |

The oil filter is on the left side of the engine at the rear, right behind the air filter housing. There is a (usually) a plastic panel directly under the engine that is attached with 4-fasteners (8mm head size). Once this panel is removed, you should be able to see the engine drain plug on the bottom left side of the oil pan. You need a 13 mm to remove the drain plug.
If the lights are out in the rocker switches that are mounted up on top of the console, (right under where the dash meets the console), these are illuminated by optic fibers. There is a single bulb behind the panel that lights them. Sometimes, a fiber may have "fallen" out of it's place on the switch (or been knocked out by a careless stereo installer etc) and it is just a matter of sticking it back into place. ------------------ |
