Moderator - Ban member "1two4" he ripped me off!

Mercedesshop.com member "1two4" ripped me off!!! His name is William Crosby. His email address is brcosb@earthlink.net.

I agreed to buy some parts from him here on mercedesshop.com and sent the money in Dec 2003. It has been 3 months since I've sent him payment and I have received nothing but broken promises and lies.

I have made numerous attempts to contact him and each time he replies with another lie just to get me off his back for a few days. Well, Mr. William Crosby I've lost my patience...I am asking the moderators to maintain the integrity of this forum by BANNING William Crosby so that no one else will get ripped off like I did.

It's people like him that ruin everything for everyone else.

I don't know if you might have followed up this post with correspondance with the moderators showing some evidence verifying your claim. Else, this post would amount to slander.

Instead of throwing about generalizations like 'parts', 'lies', 'promises', you need to document exactly what transpired - let the facts do the talking.

Dear sbourg/steve (& all mercedesshop.com members);

The purpose of my post is to protect other members of this forum from getting ripped off. I am not slandering anyone, just merely stating my experience. Here is exactly what transpired.

11/19/03 - 1two4 posted parts for sale in the parts section of mercedesshop.com
11/20/03 - I requested to buy the rearview mirror and driver side power seat switch
11/24/03 - Check for $24 sent via US mail
1/10/04 - Items not received --- 1st attempt to contact 1two4
1/11/04 - 1two4 responded said he’s been busy with a funeral, will prepare parts to ship
1/15/04 - Items not received --- 2nd attempt to contact 1two4
1/15/04 – 1two4 responded said he can’t find seat switch, but will ship rearview mirror
1/17/04 – Items not received --- 3rd attempt to contact 1two4
2/?/04 - 1two4 said he lost the check, won’t ship until I cancel check. Will give me the parts for free.
2/?/04 – 1two4 said he found the check. He’ll deposit the check then send the rearview mirror
2/26/04 - Items not received
2/26/04 – Posted on Mercedesshop.com my experience with 1two4
2/26/04 – Requested mercedesshop.com moderators to ban 1two4
2/26/04 – Went to bank to stop payment (cost $19)

These are the facts clearly illustrating my experience.

I know it’s not that much money (only $24), but it’s the principle that I’m standing up for.

I visit Mercedesshop.com often for advice and have even bought and sold things on it. To maintain the forum’s integrity, dishonest members should be exposed and banned to protect everyone. My small loss might save another fellow mercedesshop.com member hundreds of dollars.

Sincerely,

jrmd01@yahoo.com

Sounds like the sort of thing that goes on all of the time on Ebay.

I never buy from anyone on the WEB except established parts providers.

You're lucky your loss was small. Live and learn.

It costs $19 to stop payment on a check! Sounds like the bank ripped you off as well!

UPDATE = 1two4 is officially banned.

UPDATE = 1two4 is officially banned. Thank you moderators for you quick response.

zeronero - yeah, I couldn't belive it was going to cost that much to stop payment on a check. But I'd rather pay that amount to the bank, than to let the "crook" get his satisfaction.
Mike Murrell - I have bought many things on ebay, mercedesshop.com, and other online places. Believe it or not, this is the first time I have been ripped off. Now I'll be more cautious.
sbourg - Sorry for being so "generalized" with my initial post. I followed it up with the facts. I'm sure it did its own "talking"

Thank you moderators for maintaining the integrity of this forum. This is the best online automobile forum!

Sincerely,

jrmd01@yahoo.com

Let me say a bit here. I don't wish to make a big deal about it. It looks from your description that this is a common dispute that could easily have a different other side.

I can tell you that I wouldn't go through the amount of communications he did for 24 bucks. Theft was not an issue in my eyes. Lack of responsibility is more like it, could be wrong. I tend to look for the good in people. Pretty stupid guy if he set out to beat you out of $24 bucks and then put up with that ammount of communications. I figure if he had been successful he woulda made way less than minimum wage out of the deal.

But the main reason I posted is that you may have a wrong idea about moderators on this site. As one, I can tell you that I have no ability to do what you had originally asked. My input would probably be listened to by the real powers that be, but there is only one moderator that I know has the power to move the webmaster. The rest of us just volunteer any function we perform. It is my opinion that I am in charge of one area. In that area I am to watch for bad things and report in, but my main job is to try and help that each person asking a question recieves some form of answer.

I have no control and I recieve no compensation. Just so everyone has a proper concept!

Good comment, Steve.

jrmd01 - You might want to check with your bank on that "cancelled" check. A few years ago I was going to cancel a check that had gotten lost in the mail. I think the service charge at the time was $8 or $9. My bank told me that the cancellation was only good for a six month period. After that, they would honor it if it came through. Result: I didn't and don't cancel checks.

my $.02,

Wes

That's such a shame! I don't believe it was intentional either...I buy things over the internet all the time...I believe you can find some really good deals, but, you have to be cautious. Ask questions about the part or parts for sale, ask for pics and above all, C.O.D.! It protects the person your're buying from, and you.
