Outside Ambient temp sensor

I've looked in the forum and haven't seen an answer to this question yet...

I have a 1991 190e with straight 2.6l six cylinder engine. The outside ambient air temp indicator always reads136 degrees F. I believe I saw somewhere that the sensor is behind the front license plate, bit haven't gotten under to look yet. Is it there on ththis car?

Does the electronic system use that sensor to affect engine conditions, e.g., mass air flow or anything else? Should I fix it soon as it affects engine performance or can I wait a bit if it has no connection whatsoever to the engine electronics?

Thanks,
Bob

Yes, the sensor is behind the front plate bracket, but it's only function is to provide the dash temp readout. It has nothing to do with the engine control system.
