Good time to get yourself a service manual.

I am in the middle of one right now on my 420 but I ended up pulling the engine to get at everything, resealing everything in there, rebuilding the heads and all. Also will end up replacing just about every rubber item on the engine, idle hoses, injector tubes, air flow plenum parts, you name it. For some reason they petrify due to age and heat. I have right at a $1000 dollars in parts alone, all the gaskets, all the rubber items, new injectors, plugs, cap and rotor, timing chain and guides, oil pump chain and guide. The tranny has been weak and it is out as well, got a buddy at a good trans shop rebuilding it on the side for just under a grand (another $1000 US Dollars)

I am just starting to miss my Lexus now

Search here and you will find plenty of people who have pulled the heads themselves and done the rebuild work.

You don't mention what year your model is, early I think pre 86 V8's had different head bolts that often cause the threads to pull on removal which requires a PITA helicoil job.

Matt.
